What are the reasons to change Are either of these players offering better sound quality or just the ability to equalize or modify the sound.Jriver is a great media player as well and looks visually pleasing.
The music shouldnt sound any different with a player and if it does that is an issue. I really love the theater mode for my touchscreen tablet, too. AudirvanaPure MusicAmarra are very close sonically however Audirvana has a waaaaay better interface and worked flawlessly with any of the AU plugins I might want to use. Pure Music had output stuttering issues with some AU plugs and the interface was pretty meh. I also really dislike the UI of most of them, but Audirvana is the least distasteful to me (short of iTunes, surprisingly). We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. The servers SPDIF TOSLINK out connects to a DAC and then to my desktop amp. On my desktop I control mpd by using gmpc (or keyboard multimedia buttons). Pure Sound Canz3D And Software Crossfeed Software Mixer OrThe servers ALSA conf lets me choose between: Direct to Hardware (bit perfect) BS2B Meier crossfeed BS2B Chu Moy crossfeed BS2B Default crossfeed Actually all the above are hardware direct (no software mixer or resampler) as the server has no other audio duties. ![]() ![]() With wifi or a 4G connection this gives me decent access to my music wherever I am. Occasionally I use Windows and then I use the Windows version of gmpc to control mpd (same hardware chain though). As far as the mpd streams go they can be listened to with any application or device that supports streaming those codecs. Aside from the crossfeed implementations it should sound identical in VLC or DeadBeef or even WMP (with appropriate directshow filters). Pure Sound Canz3D And Software Crossfeed Full Of FlacIf Im going on a trip I always end up spending days or hours in places with lousy connections so I have a 128GB card in my Note, full of flac CD rips, and usually take my almost antique iRiver H140 (with 128GB SSD fitted) and a tiny portable amp (Topping NX 1). Assuming the same choice of crossfeed I cant really tell the difference between listening to a flac stream on my Note and listening to the more traditional sourcedacamp. The only big difference is that the smartphones level is restricted and I can get a lot more oomph from the desktop amp or the iRiverTopping. I think if a software player sounds different then it probably has a fault or it (or the operating system hosting it) is misconfigured. Too objective for subjectivists; too subjective for objectivsts.
